About
I am an illustrator, printmaker, cartoonist, and sculptor. Strange and anomalous bodies populate my work. I am obsessed with illness, injury, deformity, the grotesque, and mysticism. These themes have all touched my life. In fact, most people have grappled with such topics. I obsess over the concept of monsters and what they say about humanity and the world. I feel an affinity with the monstrous, finding comfort in their twisted forms. Themes of injury and violence reflect their constant presence in my life. Despite the heaviness of these themes, I approach them with levity and care.
My work is often filtered through the vernaculars of comic books and cartoons. Word bubbles hang empty, and cartoon critters cope and struggle with the realities of having a body and soul. Hybridism exists within my work, whether in hybrid bodies or mixed methods of practice. World-building and myth-making play a secondary role in my practice. My work draws on both history and the contemporary moment, by referencing contemporary concerns such as world changing events like climate catastrophe and pandemics while being conveyed via historical printmaking methods like etching, woodcut, and silkscreen. Through these methods my work explores aspects of the human condition and how they exist within this contemporary moment.
